This is just not OK.
As you may recall, Beyonc pushed through a mishap during her Tidal X: 1015 performance on Saturday night when one of her earrings was accidentally torn from her ear, causing some bleeding. Without skipping a beat, the 35-year-old noticed the injury and continued singing Haunted.
Shortly after the incident, the hashtags #CutForBeyonce and #BleedForBeyonce began trending on Twitter with people alluding to injuring themselves in Bey’s honor.
What seemed like a terrible joke at first turned into a reality for others as members of the BeyHive began posting graphic photos of cut wrists and ears.
Regardless of whether or not this dangerous trend began as a “joke,” it is never acceptable to mock self-harm.
We love Bey just as much as the next person, but let’s be better! If you want to support her, buy her music!
Long story short, DO NOT #CutForBeyonce or #BleedForBeyonce — and if you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please call the Self-Injury Hotline at 1-800-366-8288, the National Adolescent Suicide Hotline at 800-621-4000, or visit selfinjury.org to connect with local resources.
